By mixing letters, numbers, and special characters (minimum of 10 characters in total), make the passwords more difficult and change them often.  الابتزاز الإلكتروني can be covered if identified and reported on time.

Your PC should be protected.

Make sure your firewall is turned on.

Cybersecurity begins with firewalls, which prohibit access to unfamiliar or fraudulent websites and prevent certain kinds of viruses and hackers from infiltrating the network.

Use anti-virus and anti-malware software to protect your computer.

Anti-spyware measures

Install and update anti-spyware software on your computer to prevent spyware from infecting it.

Take use of the power of social media

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MSN and other social networking accounts should be set to private. Make sure that your security settings are up to date. The information that you put online should be taken with a grain of salt. Is it ever going to be removed off the Internet?

Mobile devices should be protected.

Remember that your mobile device is susceptible to viruses and hackers, so take precautions. Make sure the apps you download are from reputable sources.

Update your operating system to the most recent version.

Update your software and operating system (such as Windows, Mac, or Linux) regularly to ensure optimal performance. Keep outdated software safe by enabling automatic upgrades.

It’s important to safeguard your personal information.

When dealing with sensitive information such as tax returns or bank records, it’s crucial to encrypt those files and keep frequent backups of all your critical files in a separate area.

Your wireless network should be protected against unauthorised access.

If your Wi-Fi (wireless) network at home is not adequately protected, it is susceptible to infiltration. Make changes to the defaults. “Hot Spots,” or public Wi-Fi networks, are under risk as well. Stay away from financial or business transactions on these platforms.

Protect your digital identity

Don’t provide personal information like your name, address, phone number or bank information on the Internet without your permission. In order to protect yourself online, ensure that the websites you’re visiting are safe or that you’ve activated privacy settings (such as on social networking sites).

Avoid being conned by scam artists.

If a link or file comes from a source you don’t recognise, consider before you click. Do not allow any emails to put you on edge. The message’s origin should be checked. Verify the source if you’re not sure. Always ignore communications that seek for personal information or password verification.

For assistance, contact the proper person.

There is no need to panic! Your local police department should be informed about any crimes you’ve experienced, unlawful Internet material you’ve encountered (such child exploitation), or commercial scams you’ve been duped into falling for. Consult with your service provider or a professional computer technician if you need assistance with computer maintenance or software installation.
